Jon Lord, Keyboard and founder of Deep Purple, dies at age 71

British rocker Jon Lord, former keyboardist for the band Deep Purple, has died. He was 71 years old.

A statement on Lord’s official website says the Leicester, England-born musician suffered a fatal pulmonary embolism in London on Monday after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Lord co-wrote some of Deep Purple’s most famous tunes, including “Smoke on the Water,” and later had a successful solo career following his retirement from the band in 2002.

Last year, Lord told fans he was “fighting cancer and will therefore be taking a break from performing while getting the treatment and cure”.

In a message on his website dated August 9th, 2011, he added: “I shall of course be continuing to write music – in my world it just has to be part of the therapy – and I fully expect to be back in good shape next year.”

The statement posted on Lord’s website said he died “surrounded by his loving family.”

Rest in Peace

Iron Maiden’s ‘The Number Of The Beast’ voted Best British Album of the last 60 years

Iron Maiden’s ‘The Number Of The Beast’ has been voted as the best British album of the last 60 years in a new poll.

The metal classic came out on top in a public vote conducted by HMV to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and took almost 10% of the votes cast. leaving behind Record Breaking and world famous albums like Pink FLoyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” and Queen’s “A Night at the Opera.”

Another big surprise on the poll is the second place. Depeche Mode’s “Violator,” while The Beatles took 4 albums to the top 10 but did not make it to the first.

Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickenson said: “We’re astonished and delighted to hear ‘The Number of the Beast’ has been named Number One. Some of the most influential and classic albums from the past 60 years were in the running so it’s a testament to our incredibly loyal and ever-supportive fans who voted for us. Iron Maiden is a proudly British band, so to win this category as voted for by the British public, in Jubilee year, is very special. Thank you to all our wonderful fans!“

HMV’s Gennaro Castaldo, comments: “You often tend to see the same artists and albums dominate album polls, but with social media increasingly giving the most ardent and passionate fans a powerful voice, I think that’s all going to change, and so it’s no surprise that Iron Maiden have come out on top as their fans are renowned for being the most loyal and dedicated around. Congratulations to Iron Maiden — we now know The Number Of The Beast is, I fact, ….1. The beginning of Elizabeth II’s reign, and the bright new future it represented, didn’t just coincide with a flowering of British popular culture, it helped to provide the very spark that lit the touch-paper for an explosion in music and film talent. Since then, the Queen has presided over the richest period of cultural achievement in our nation’s history, so it’s only right that her Diamond Jubilee, which ironically also encapsulates sixty years of the official charts, should be a period when we reflect on the greatest British albums and films of the past six decades.”

Other albums that not made it to the top 10 but were also nominated are The Clash “London Calling”, Radiohead “OK Computer”, Led Zeppelin IV, David Bowie “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars”, Black Sabbath self titled album, among many others that are part of every album collection.

The 10 Best British Albums of the last 60 years as voted in HMV poll were as follows:

1. Iron Maiden – ‘The Number Of The Beast’
2. Depeche Mode – ‘Violator’
3. The Beatles – ‘Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’?
4. The Beatles – ‘Abbey Road’
5. Pink Floyd – ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’
6. The Beatles – ‘Revolver’?
7. Queen – ‘A Night At The Opera’
8. Oasis – ‘(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?’
9. Adele – 21′
10. The Beatles – ‘White Album’

Edu Falaschi leaves Angra

Edu Falaschi, Front-man of the Brazilian power/progessive metal gods Angra, has reported in his official website his separation with the band. he also

Edu was the replacement of Andre Matos in the band in 2001, among with Paul Di’Anno’s drummer Aquiles Priester and bassist Felipe Andreoli, they joined the band in 2001 and created the album Rebirth which was actually the rebirth of the band.

Edu’s statement was the following:

“Dear friends, fans and partners,

“There comes a moment in a man’s life when it is necessary to make a radical decision in order to move forward with dignity and renewed energy.

“I’m in a very happy moment, where now, at age 40, I’m fulfilled and incredibly satisfied to have succeeded in making almost all my personal and professional dreams come true.

“I have a beautiful family, many wonderful friends and fans who have followed me for over 20 years and a lasting career with more than 15 albums released, several world tours and thousands of copies sold worldwide.

“I am a lucky person to have made ?it this far, singing Heavy Metal and been around the planet playing the music I love the most.

“I’ve been thinking for some time now, about the path to follow and finally came to the conclusion that it is time to take the more natural road.

“It is with a mixture of relief, joy and sadness that I have to declare that from today on I am not the voice of ANGRA anymore, I’m leaving the band already missing a lot of what we built together, specially the happy times of Rebirth and Temple of Shadows. I will never forget everything that we experienced from good to bad times, after all we must always look at the good side of things, even when things are most difficult.

“I am eternally grateful for those 10 years of many victories and for all the opportunities given to me, I wish them luck on their journeys.

“Whenever they want or need I will be around and ready to support them! I am and will always be very proud of our history! My life is music and music is the food to my soul. I have many plans and projects for the future! Some of them are already well established, strong and generating excellent results and so, they demand and deserve my full dedication, and of all the people involved in it. That’s why I also want to announce that Felipe Andreoli is not the Almah’s bass-player anymore! He will keep working only with Angra and his other projects!

“I will go on with my ideals and my career as a singer, songwriter and producer. Thank you all, with love…

Edu Falaschi”

Roger Waters adds another brick on his Wall Tour

Roger Waters’ THE WALL tour was originally scheduled to wrap up in Philadelphia on July 14, but he has had a “little” change of plans, adding another brick in the wall.

The very last show on the tour now will be in Quebec City, Quebec at Fields of Abraham on July 21 where Waters intends to make a record in music history books and erect the biggest wall to date ever build for a show by doubling the original size. Lucky Canadians. you have something else to enjoy.

Just to close this post i will quote Waters on this video below: “If you don’t come, there’s something f__king wrong with you”

Tickets will be available to the general public beginning on June 5 here, or fans can register on RogerWaters.com for a limited number of priority tickets (wristbands) that will be available in advance of the public sale for fans who register on between 9:00am on Wednesday May 23 and 9pm Thursday May 31.

Metallica concert in Vancouver to be filmed in 3D

Metallica’s August 24 concert at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada will be filmed in 3D for the band’s upcoming 3D feature-film project. my fellow Canadians, enjoy the moment.

the band sayed: “We couldn’t think of a better place than Vancouver to end our three-week new stage run with cameras capturing it all, so bring your nuttiest, craziest Metalli-self to the show, be a part of movie history, and show the rest of the world how much Vancouver rocks. And they added, “For those of you wondering what lies ahead, the emphasis here is on ‘end of our three-week new stage run’ as these are indeed the last dates that we are announcing for summer of 2012.”

The film is going to be directed by Award Wining Nimrod Antal and will be produced by Charlotte Huggins.

This is something worth watching, thou I have some bad feelings about watching Robert trujillo walking like a crab in 3D.

Rough night for Axl Rose in Liverpool

Axl Rose haven’t had a good time lately when it comes to accidents and scandals made by himself. After the whole drama of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, he fell while partying in Russia and the next day tweeted a photo of a nasty bruise with the captions “Can u say hematoma?”.

Well, this past Sunday show in Liverpool wasn’t a pretty night for the Guns N’ Roses front-man who, as usual, came late into the stage. The crowd threw a plastic bottle to the center stage during the beginning of “Welcome to the Jungle” and Axl stopped the show and threatened to leave and not perform for them. Then he started the song over again and after that incident the show went through as a normal Guns N’ Roses show.

Accidents is the curse that have been haunting Axl since the beginning of the tour and Sunday was no exception. At the end of the show, when he saying goodbye to the crowd he fell again. Fortunately it wasn’t anything big. Axl… Please be more careful when you walk around.

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Black Sabbath returned to stage last Saturday.

After the “Bill Ward Crisis” and the whole drama on the reunion of Black Sabbath, they finally returned to the stage at the O2 Academy in Birmingham, England for their intimate show to a crowd of about 4,000 people in the town that saw the birth of Metal.

This show was definitely a warm up for the Metal Legends, and having a intimate show in their hometown. With only 4000 lucky people that got to see the show that sold out 10 minutes after the tickets were out.

TOmmy Clufetos, was the replacement for Bill Ward, and it wasn’t a problem for him getting in the back of the stage and perform with Sabbath since he is the current Drummer for Ozzy’s Solo band.

The band played a set of over 18 of Black Sabbath’s classic songs. the set list was the following:

Into the Void
Under the Sun
Snowblind
War Pigs
Wheels of Confusion
Electric Funeral
Black Sabbath
The Wizzard
Behind the Wall of Sleep
N.I.B.
Fairies Wear Boots
Tomorrow’s Dream
Sweet Leaf
Symptom of the Universe
Iron Man
Dirty Women
Children of the Grave
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (Intro)
Paranoid

After the show, bassist Geezer Butler took to his website to thank the fans for the evening, saying, “Thank you, thank you, thank you Birmingham. Best fans ever – you brought out the best in us. It was a privilege playing for you tonight. Tony was a hero – you were the best medicine he has had. Proud to be a Brummie.”

The next shows performed by the band will be at the Download Festival and at Lollapalooza later in August this year in Chicago.

David Lee Roth talks about postponing the Van Halen Tour

First of all, Van Halen are getting along very well, is hard to believe on any Rolling Stone article you read these days. Claiming that the band “hate each other” and that they were “arguing like mad” is just another non-sense rumor made up by the magazine.

The 30+ shows of the second leg on the tour were not canceled, they were just simply postponed and they will announce later when are the new dates comming up. if you got your Van Halen ticket, and were part of the unfortunate ones that were whining about it, make sure to hold on that ticket. Van Halen is going to perform for you.

The reasons for postponing those dates are due to exhaustion of the members. They are not kids anymore, (well, Wolfie is a still a kid) and they have been working on “A Different Kind of Truth” Album, shooting the “Tattoo” video, and non-stopping touring. they deserve the break.

Here is the video were David Lee Roth talks about postponing the tour.

Remembering George Harrison, 10th year anniversary

On November 29, 2001, media outlets all over the world reported that former Beatle George Harrison had passed away, having lost his battle with cancer. But such statements were grossly insufficient to capture the breadth of Harrison’s life.

Often referred to as “the quiet Beatle”, Harrison became over time an admirer of Indian mysticism, and introduced it to the other Beatles, as well as their Western audience. Following the band’s break-up, he was a successful solo artist, later a founding member of the Traveling Wilburys. Harrison was also a session musician and a film and record producer. He is listed at number 21 in Rolling Stone magazine’s list of “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time”.

Two concerts will take place in Liverpool later to mark the 10th anniversary of George Harrison’s death.

The concerts will take place at 14:00 GMT at St George’s Hall, and at 20:00 GMT at The Cavern Club where the Fab Four often played. Flags will also fly at half-mast at both the Liverpool City Hall and St George’s Hall.

20 years without the KILLER QUEEN, Remembering Freddie Mercury

Freddie on Vader

The British rockers, marking their 40th anniversary this year, are among the world’s biggest-selling artists ever – with most of their sales coming in the 20 years since Mercury died.

Queen’s guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor are busier than ever and Mercury’s songs such as “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Don’t Stop Me Now” still endure as classics.

The Independent on Sunday newspaper said the singer’s death “seemed a mere hiccup in his career”.

In the years since, Mercury’s stock has risen, with a new generation of artists citing Queen among their influences, including Lady Gaga, Robbie Williams, Foo Fighters and Muse.

Mercury, 45, died at his London home on November 24, 1991. He had been diagnosed HIV positive several years earlier and died of bronchial pneumonia, brought on by AIDS.

Queen’s lead singer is remembered for his captivating live performances, spellbinding vocals and enduring hits including “We Are The Champions”, “Killer Queen”, “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”.

With interest still high, a film about Mercury, starring Borat creator Sacha Baron Cohen, is in the pipeline, focusing on the years leading up to Queen’s stellar performance at the Live Aid concert in 1985.

“Even though physically he is not here, his presence seems more potent than ever,” May wrote in a blog marking Mercury’s 65th birthday in September.

“He will always epitomise the perfect frontman – the consummate channel of communication between a band and an audience.

“He devoured life. He celebrated every minute. And, like a great comet, he left a luminous trail which will sparkle for many a generation to come.”

In a statement on November 23, 1991, Mercury confirmed from his death bed that he had AIDS.

Within 24 hours he had fallen into a coma and passed away, having handled his illness in private and never complained of his suffering.
