Queen Guitarist Brian May protests Golf Club animal brutality

Queen guitarist Brian May, a longtime animal-rights activist, is protesting the Peterculter Golf Club in Aberdeen, England, because of its failure to ban a member who bludgeoned a fox with a golf club.

“It’s evident that the vast majority of the British public are disgusted by cruelty to animals, as shown by the public outcry against this particularly senseless piece of brutality,” says May.

Donald Forbes clubbed the fox after it stole his chocolate biscuit, and the animal had to be put to death by another member to put it out of its misery. Forbes was fined $1200 by a court but was reinstated by the country club nine months after the incident.

“The members of this Aberdeen club have the opportunity to show their disapproval in an appropriate way — by banning this unsavory character for life,” adds May. “But they seem to be unready.”

A lawyer for the country club said, “The committee took account of his previous unblemished record over many years of membership. This decision in no way condones Mr Forbes’s actions.”
